BJP leader Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur responded to the Supreme Court’s ruling allowing Basant Panchami puja and Friday namaz at the ASI-protected Bhojshala Temple-Kamal Maula Mosque complex in Madhya Pradesh. She termed the order as temporary, emphasizing that justice for the Saraswati temple at the site is still pending.
Expressing her respect for the Supreme Court as a constitutional body, Sadhvi Pragya stated that the dispute at Bhojshala remains unresolved. She highlighted the need for a systematic approach to accommodate both namaz and Hindu worship at the site.
The historical and religious importance of the location was underscored by Sadhvi Pragya, who mentioned the unresolved status of the Saraswati garden. The ongoing dispute over the monument involves claims from both Hindu and Muslim communities for worship rights.
The Supreme Court recently allowed the simultaneous observance of Basant Panchami puja and Friday prayers at the complex, following assurances from the Madhya Pradesh government on maintaining law and order. Separate entry and exit arrangements for Hindus and Muslims were assured to prevent any potential conflicts.
The apex court, led by Chief Justice Surya Kant and Justices Joymalya Bagchi and Vipul M. Pancholi, directed the Madhya Pradesh High Court to distribute copies of a scientific survey conducted by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) to all involved parties. This survey pertains to the disputed nature and historical structure of the Bhojshala complex.
A plea by the Hindu Front for Justice seeking permission for day-long rituals at Bhojshala on Basant Panchami prompted the Supreme Court’s intervention. The site, known as Kamal Maula Mosque, has been a focal point of communal tensions, with Hindus claiming it as a Saraswati temple and Muslims asserting its historical use as a mosque.
