The new Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP)-led government in West Bengal has initiated a significant bureaucratic reshuffle by transferring 17 Indian Administrative Service (IAS) officers at once. The transfers, aimed at enhancing administrative efficiency at the district level, include departmental secretaries, municipal commissioners, and additional district magistrates. The move is intended to streamline general administrative operations and bolster district-level administrative functions, as per sources at the state secretariat in Nabanna.
Sujoy Sarkar, a 2010-batch IAS officer, has been reassigned from the Commissioner of Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation to serve as the Commissioner of the state Textiles & Sericulture Department and the managing director of Tantuja, a state-run entity. Ravi Agarwal, a 2017-batch IAS officer previously serving as the Additional District Magistrate of Purulia district, has taken over Sarkar’s former position at Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
Hindole Dutta, a 2014-batch IAS officer who was an associate professor at Netaji Subhash Administrative Training Institute, has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Asansol Municipal Corporation. Meanwhile, Nitin Singhani, a 2013-batch IAS officer holding the position of Chief Executive Officer at Kolkata Metropolitan Development Authority, has been reassigned as the senior special secretary to the state home and hill affairs secretary, with additional responsibilities at the Centre of Excellence in Public Management and the Satyendranath Tagore Civil Services Study Centre.
Several other IAS officers, including Shaikh Ansar Ahmad, Rajat Nanda, Dhiman Barai, Priyadarshini S., Prashant Raj Shukla, Suman Saurabh Mohanti, Rajesh, Lakshmana Perumal R., Sinjan Shekhar, Archana P. Wankhede, Manjeet Kumar Yadav, Saurav Pandey, and Ekam J. Singh, have also been transferred to different administrative positions across various districts in West Bengal, as part of the recent bureaucratic reshuffle.
