Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) National Executive Committee member, Kummanam Rajasekharan, praised the Union Government’s decision to allocate Rs 60 crore for the Atal Mission for Rejuvenation and Urban Transformation (AMRUT) 2.0 in Kerala. He emphasized the importance of this funding in enhancing urban infrastructure and the quality of life in Kerala’s cities.

Rajasekharan highlighted that this allocation signifies the Central Government’s dedication, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, to support Kerala’s development impartially. The funds, approved by the Union Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs for the 2026-27 financial year, aim to facilitate the smooth execution of the AMRUT 2.0 program in the state.

The sanctioned amount of Rs 60 crore, following the funding pattern, includes a Central share of Rs 20 crore (33.33%) and a State contribution of Rs 40 crore (66.67%). The AMRUT 2.0 initiative in Kerala targets six Municipal Corporations and three major municipalities with populations exceeding one lakh, such as Kottayam, Alappuzha, and Palakkad.

These funds are designated for various urban infrastructure projects to enhance civic amenities, promote sustainable cities, and improve living standards. The focus areas include strengthening water supply systems, expanding sewerage infrastructure, developing green public spaces, and supporting sustainable urban mobility.

Rajasekharan emphasized the importance of efficient and transparent utilization of the sanctioned funds by urban local bodies and implementing agencies. He stressed the need for timely project completion to the highest standards to modernize Kerala’s urban centers and elevate residents’ quality of life.

Describing the recent allocation under AMRUT 2.0 as a significant milestone in Kerala’s urban development journey, Rajasekharan expressed optimism that this initiative would expedite the transformation of the state’s cities into modern, sustainable urban hubs, benefiting the citizens.
