BJP MLA Vungzagin Valte from Manipur’s Thanlon constituency, who suffered severe injuries in a mob assault during ethnic violence on May 4, 2023, has passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram. Valte, a 62-year-old tribal leader of the Zomi community, was elected to the Manipur Assembly from Thanlon in Churachandpur district.
Following the violent incident in May 2023, Valte had been undergoing medical treatment in Delhi and was residing in Churachandpur district. His health deteriorated, leading to his transfer to New Delhi on February 8 for advanced medical care. Unfortunately, he breathed his last in a Gurugram hospital on a Saturday afternoon.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Manipur Governor Ajay Kumar Bhalla, Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, and various leaders and organizations have expressed their condolences on Valte’s demise. PM Modi praised Valte for his dedicated service to Manipur, highlighting his valuable contributions in the Assembly.
Manipur Lok Bhavan and Chief Minister Singh also mourned Valte’s passing, acknowledging his commitment to public service and the welfare of Manipur’s people. Singh emphasized Valte’s efforts in infrastructure development and community upliftment, recognizing him as a sincere and compassionate leader.
