The body of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MLA Vungzagin Valte, who passed away at a private hospital in Gurugram, was transported to Lengpui Airport in Aizawl, Mizoram, and then taken by road to his hometown in Manipur’s Churachandpur district.
Family members and relatives received Valte’s body at Lengpui Airport in Aizawl and accompanied it to Churachandpur district. The last rites are expected to take place on Monday or Tuesday as per the family’s wishes, stated a Kuki-Zo community leader.
In honor of the late leader, Manipur declared three days of mourning starting from Sunday to Tuesday. The state will observe this period with the National Flag flown at half-mast and no official entertainment, as per an official notification.
Manipur Chief Minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh paid his respects to Valte in Gurugram and expressed condolences to the grieving family. He stood in silence before Valte’s mortal remains, offered floral tributes, and spent time interacting with the family.
A prayer service was conducted for eternal peace for Valte, followed by a condolence meeting attended by Chief Minister Khemchand Singh, BJP MLAs, members of the bereaved family, and leaders of the Zomi community in Delhi.
