BJP MP Anurag Thakur commended the Modi government for its substantial financial aid and infrastructure initiatives in Himachal Pradesh. Thakur highlighted that since 2014, under PM Modi’s leadership, the state has received remarkable assistance and witnessed significant developmental strides. The Centre has allocated over ₹76,799 crore to Himachal Pradesh for assistance and infrastructure projects, a move praised by Thakur.
Thakur criticized the Congress, noting that during the UPA regime, Himachal Pradesh lost its special category status, which was reinstated by PM Modi. This restoration has proven beneficial, with the Centre now covering 90% of project costs, easing the state’s financial burden. The BJP MP emphasized the implementation of various major projects in Himachal Pradesh during the NDA government’s tenure, including ongoing railway projects valued at over ₹13,000 crore, aimed at enhancing connectivity and economic growth.
During the Covid period, Thakur highlighted the Modi government’s initiative to provide substantial aid to the state, contrasting it with the UPA’s lack of support. The Centre has allocated ₹8,309 crore in assistance over the past few years, demonstrating a commitment to Himachal Pradesh’s development. Thakur also mentioned significant investments in healthcare and industry sectors, with funds allocated for medical colleges, a bulk drug park in Una, and a medical device park in Rajgarh, emphasizing the government’s focus on infrastructure development.
Responding to queries regarding the revenue deficit grant, Thakur clarified that the grant suspension applies not only to Himachal Pradesh but also to 17 other states, dismissing claims of discrimination. Thakur criticized the state government for accumulating excessive debt and failing to boost revenue, leading to a deteriorating financial situation. He urged the state government to take proactive measures to address the financial challenges facing Himachal Pradesh.
