BJP MP Bhartruhari Mahtab expressed satisfaction with a recent public survey showing that a majority of people have faith in Electronic Voting Machine (EVM)-based elections. He emphasized the survey’s reflection of public trust in India’s electoral system, despite doubts raised by Rahul Gandhi regarding EVMs and the Election Commission. Mahtab highlighted India’s strong democratic foundations and the Election Commission’s commitment to fair elections, urging against baseless criticism that undermines democracy.
The BJP lawmaker criticized the tendency to question EVMs only after electoral losses, labeling it a concerning pattern in Indian politics. He pointed out the inconsistency of celebrating the system in victory and discrediting it in defeat. Mahtab praised India’s electoral transparency, citing rigorous monitoring, legal oversight, and constitutional protections that ensure the credibility of the electoral process. He stressed the importance of political parties accepting election outcomes and resolving disputes within the constitutional framework.
The survey conducted by the State Election Commission in Karnataka, analyzed by the Karnataka Monitoring and Evaluation Authority, indicated growing public confidence in the fairness of Indian elections and trust in EVMs. Covering 5,100 respondents across 102 Assembly segments in Bengaluru, Belagavi, Kalaburagi, and Mysuru, the survey titled “Lok Sabha Elections 2024- Evaluation of endline survey of KAP (Knowledge, Attitude and Practice) of Citizens” was overseen by the Karnataka Monitoring Authority and Grassroots Research and Advocacy Movement, Bengaluru.
