Former England cricketer Kevin Pietersen commended young batter Sameer Rizvi for his unbeaten 70 off 47 balls, leading Delhi Capitals to a six-wicket victory against Lucknow Super Giants in the IPL 2026 opener. Pietersen, who mentored DC last year, highlighted Rizvi’s impressive skills and urged the team’s management to continue supporting him for more match-winning performances.

Having closely observed Rizvi last season, Pietersen recalled the young player’s remarkable talent, emphasizing the importance of investing in promising talents like Rizvi. Pietersen praised Rizvi’s ability to handle pressure and deliver when needed, especially in crucial matches like the IPL opener.

Pietersen also backed Delhi Capitals’ decision to send Tristan Stubbs ahead of David Miller, noting Stubbs’ suitability to absorb pressure as a Test batter at number three. He explained that Miller’s role as a finisher made Stubbs a better choice in challenging situations, emphasizing the significance of strategic decisions in high-pressure games.
