BJP MP and former Chief Minister Basavaraj Bommai criticized the Congress party, stating that Chief Ministers are chosen based on their relationship with the Gandhi family, which he deemed detrimental to democracy. Bommai highlighted intense infighting among Congress leaders driven by power struggles, with existing ministers vying to maintain their positions and newcomers seeking roles.
He pointed out that Cabinet ministers are striving to retain their posts, some citing their multiple election wins, while new entrants are also pushing for positions. Bommai mentioned senior leader Mallikarjun Kharge’s aspiration for the Chief Minister’s position based on merit. He described the Congress as a “family-run party,” noting confusion within the party regarding its high command structure.
Bommai criticized the lack of internal democracy within the Congress party, emphasizing that individuals who gain the confidence of Rahul Gandhi, Sonia Gandhi, and Priyanka Gandhi ascend to the role of Chief Minister. He expressed concern over the impact of political infighting on governance, alleging that the government’s inefficiency has left voters disillusioned. Bommai claimed that budget allocations remained unutilized due to governmental standstills caused by internal conflicts.
