Commenting on Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s celebration for equalling the record as the longest-serving CM after D. Devaraj Urs, BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP Lahar Singh Siroya expressed a wish for more modesty. Siroya highlighted that while Siddaramaiah surpassed Urs’ record, the latter had continuous terms unlike Siddaramaiah, who lost power in 2018.
Siroya pointed out historical context, mentioning that Urs’ long tenure was due to the 1976 elections postponement during the Emergency. He questioned whether Siddaramaiah would condemn the Emergency and Indira Gandhi’s actions. Siroya compared Siddaramaiah’s record to other long-serving CMs in India, noting the uninterrupted terms they served.
Union Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy criticized Siddaramaiah’s record, suggesting it should be “buried” instead of celebrated. Kumaraswamy questioned Siddaramaiah’s merit for the achievement, emphasizing the state’s condition as a factor to consider.
