Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) Rajya Sabha MP Sudhanshu Trivedi highlighted the need to explore India’s traditional pharmacy strengths, citing its rich heritage in the field. He commended the Modi government for its proactive stance in positioning India as a global traditional medicine hub. Trivedi mentioned the establishment of the World Health Organisation’s Global Centre for Traditional Medicine in Gujarat as a significant step towards this goal.
Trivedi criticized past administrations for overlooking India’s inherent capabilities in traditional medicine. He referenced the 2016 Nobel Prize in Medicine awarded for research on autophagy, underscoring the importance of scientifically validating and sharing India’s traditional knowledge globally. Trivedi also lauded India’s advancements in electronics, iPhone manufacturing, smartphones, and pharmaceuticals, positioning the country as a key player in the global economic landscape.
Highlighting India’s growing influence, Trivedi noted that alongside China, India is a major producer of high-end iPhones and supplies a substantial portion of generic medicines to the United States. He emphasized the increasing global confidence in India’s quality and reliability across various sectors.
