Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) MP Saumitra Khan stated that rebel Trinamool Congress leaders have the freedom to establish a distinct platform and will not be permitted to join the BJP. This comes amidst a growing divide within the Trinamool Congress, resulting in the resignation of numerous party members and MPs.
Union Minister of State Sukanta Majumdar and West Bengal BJP President Samik Bhattacharya had previously made similar declarations, emphasizing that no leader from the Mamata Banerjee-led party would be welcomed into the BJP. Saumitra Khan, addressing reporters, affirmed that no individuals from the Trinamool Congress would be accepted into the BJP, noting that they are creating a separate platform which the BJP is unconcerned about.
In a critical stance against the Trinamool Congress, Khan accused all Trinamool Congress MPs of corruption, labeling them as thieves disliked by the public. He specifically mentioned that people had voted against Abhishek Banerjee and Kakoli Ghosh Dastidar. Responding to queries regarding Trinamool Congress leader Ritabrata Banerjee, Khan expressed disapproval, stating that Ritabrata would not be allowed to join the BJP, emphasizing the formation of a separate platform if they choose to do so.
Ritabrata Banerjee, the leader of the majority bloc of the Trinamool Congress Legislative Party in the West Bengal Assembly and the official Leader of the Opposition in the House, was also mentioned. Saumitra Khan predicted the imprisonment of Trinamool General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee in response to a case challenging the summons issued by the West Bengal Police’s Criminal Investigation Department.
In a separate development, Trinamool MP Kalyan Banerjee criticized Abhishek Banerjee’s behavior and arrogance, feeling sidelined in a legal case. The rebellion within the Trinamool Congress, led by Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha among others, has escalated, with claims of being the “real Trinamool”, causing a dilemma for party chief Mamata Banerjee.
