The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has decided to postpone its Madhya Pradesh state executive committee meeting, originally scheduled for July 18 and 19 in Orchha. This decision was made in light of the Datia Assembly bypoll and the upcoming Monsoon Session of the state Assembly. BJP state President Hemant Khandelwal mentioned that revised dates for the meeting will be announced soon.
The state executive committee meeting was anticipated to be attended by Chief Minister Mohan Yadav, state ministers, MPs, MLAs, district presidents, and other senior party officials. This gathering would have marked the first such meeting since Khandelwal assumed the role of the BJP’s state unit president last week.
The postponement coincides with intensified campaigning by political parties for the Datia Assembly bypoll set for July 30, with vote counting on August 3. The by-election was triggered by the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti due to a criminal conviction. The BJP has nominated former Home Minister Narottam Mishra, while the Congress has put forward Varsha Bharti, the disqualified legislator’s wife.
Preparations are also underway for the Monsoon Session of the Madhya Pradesh Legislative Assembly, scheduled from July 20 to July 24. During this five-day session, discussions are expected to focus on various issues, with the Opposition likely to raise concerns regarding governance, law and order, and farmers’ matters. The government is set to introduce legislative business, including the initial supplementary Budget of the financial year.
State BJP media in-charge Ashish Agarwal confirmed that the rescheduled dates for the state executive committee meeting will be announced separately.
