BJP President Nitin Nabin highlighted the importance of a research-based approach in selecting party candidates for the upcoming West Bengal assembly elections. This emphasis was made during a core committee meeting held in Durgapur. Nabin, currently on a two-day visit to West Bengal, aims to assess the situation ahead of the crucial state elections later this year.
The party’s state committee member revealed that the national vice-president advocates for this research-based selection not only for new candidates but also for existing party members. Notable attendees at the meeting included state BJP president, Samik Bhattacharya, and party leaders like Suvendu Adhikari, along with central observers Sunil Bansal, Mangal Pandey, and Amit Malviya.
Further discussions are planned with the state party leadership to elaborate on the candidate selection criteria for the 2026 West Bengal assembly polls. Nabin hinted that candidates chosen through this method will receive priority in nomination, potentially leading to non-renomination of some current party legislators.
