On the 12th International Yoga Day, BJP President Nitin Nabin participated in a yoga event organized by Rajya Sabha member Ashok Mittal in Phagwara, Punjab. The event drew around 12,000 attendees. This marked Nabin’s first official visit to Punjab since taking on the role of BJP national president. During his visit, he engaged in various programs in Jalandhar, Amritsar, and Ludhiana to strengthen the party’s presence in the state.
Nitin Nabin emphasized the global impact of yoga, noting its evolution into a worldwide movement since being adopted by the United Nations in 2014. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi for elevating yoga from an ancient Indian practice to a global phenomenon observed in over 190 countries. The 12th International Yoga Day coincided with the completion of 12 years of Modi’s tenure, adding significance to the celebration.
The event, themed ’12-12-12′, symbolized the 12th International Yoga Day, 12 years of yoga’s global growth under Modi’s leadership, and the participation of nearly 12,000 individuals at Lovely Professional University (LPU). Ashok Mittal, speaking at the event, highlighted the power of yoga in promoting health, well-being, and unity. He praised Modi for popularizing yoga globally and emphasized the theme of ‘Yoga for Healthy Ageing’.
Ashok Mittal stressed the importance of integrating yoga into daily routines, especially for young people. As part of the event, messages were placed in a time capsule by Nitin Nabin, Ashok Mittal, and other guests, to be opened in 2047 as a symbol of India’s progress. Mittal also led an anti-drug pledge for the participants, urging them to steer clear of substance abuse and raise awareness in their communities.
