BJP’s Punjab unit President Sunil Jakhar praised the India-US trade agreement, highlighting its advantages for both countries. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for safeguarding farmers’ interests in the deal. Jakhar emphasized that the pact would enhance Punjab’s industrial growth and create new job opportunities for the youth.
He mentioned that the agreement excludes all crops produced in Punjab, ensuring no adverse effects on the state’s farmers. Jakhar credited Prime Minister Modi and Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal for prioritizing the protection of farmers’ interests during the negotiations. The deal guarantees no imports of crops like wheat, rice, or maize from the US, providing full protection to the dairy sector as well.
Jakhar criticized opposition leaders for failing to acknowledge the agreement’s national interest benefits. He urged them to move beyond partisan politics and appreciate the government’s efforts. The state BJP President called for constructive dialogue based on facts rather than opposition for the sake of it.
He highlighted that the trade agreement is expected to boost exports, drive industrial progress, and create new employment avenues in the country. Additionally, Jakhar condemned the suspension of two senior IAS officers by the Punjab government, labeling it as highly objectionable. He emphasized the importance of protecting officers from undue pressure to engage in corrupt practices.
