BJP spokesperson Shehzad Poonawalla expressed agreement with Jan Shakti Janata Dal chief Tej Pratap Yadav’s recent criticism of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi. Yadav had labeled Gandhi as a “cowardly leader” and questioned his commitment, particularly citing Gandhi’s unfulfilled promise to visit Ayodhya. Poonawalla highlighted that allies like the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress have openly doubted Gandhi’s leadership abilities in the past.
Supporting Yadav’s stance, Poonawalla further emphasized that Rahul Gandhi lacks the confidence of his own party members. He pointed out instances where leaders within the Congress, such as Imran Masood, Shashi Tharoor, and Digvijaya Singh, have shown reservations about Gandhi’s leadership. Poonawalla also mentioned Tej Pratap Yadav’s acknowledgment of this reality and the widespread skepticism regarding Rahul Gandhi’s strength as a leader among the public.
Former Union Minister Shakeel Ahmad had previously criticized the Congress, alleging a lack of internal democracy and claiming that Rahul Gandhi aims to remove senior party leaders. Ahmad expressed discomfort with Gandhi’s preference for working with less experienced leaders. Opposition voices from parties like the Samajwadi Party and Trinamool Congress have also suggested alternative leaders for the INDIA bloc, questioning Gandhi’s leadership capabilities.
This is not an isolated incident, as various opposition figures have raised concerns about Rahul Gandhi’s leadership in the past. Instances where key party members like Shashi Tharoor and Imran Masood have expressed differing opinions from Gandhi have further fueled discussions about the Congress leader’s effectiveness. The ongoing debate surrounding Rahul Gandhi’s leadership within the party continues to draw attention from various political quarters.
