The political dispute over recent cross-voting in the Karnataka Legislative Council has escalated, with BJP State President B.Y. Vijayendra expressing confidence that internal disagreements will be resolved soon. Allegations have surfaced questioning Vijayendra’s alliance with Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar following the cross-voting incident.
Vijayendra, during a visit to Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala, dismissed rumors of internal discord within the party. He emphasized his observance of party developments over the past two-and-a-half years and assured that any issues would be settled in the coming days. The State BJP chief clarified that his role aims to strengthen the party organization, not to pursue the position of Chief Minister.
Regarding the Legislative Council cross-voting controversy, Vijayendra stated uncertainty about Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar’s involvement but affirmed that BJP legislators did not cross-vote independently. He also highlighted the BJP’s support for farmers in opposing the Bidadi Integrated Township Project, ensuring they are not displaced from their lands.
Vijayendra raised concerns about financial irregularities in the implementation of the Gruha Lakshmi scheme as highlighted in the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) report. He criticized the misrepresentation of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls by the Congress and expressed worries about the drought-like conditions in Karnataka, praying for timely rainfall and farmers’ well-being.
