BJP workers and supporters en route to Suvendu Adhikari’s swearing-in ceremony chanted ‘Jai Shri Ram’ outside Mamata Banerjee’s residence in Harish Chatterjee Street, Kalighat. The street appeared deserted with minimal police presence due to reduced security post the Trinamool Congress’s defeat in the West Bengal Assembly elections.
A small group of BJP workers proceeded towards the Brigade Parade Grounds for the ceremony, chanting slogans as they passed by Mamata Banerjee’s house. Simultaneously, some Trinamool workers gathered to show support, raising ‘Joy Bangla’ slogans. Despite the contrasting chants, the situation remained peaceful without any disturbances reported.
Suvendu Adhikari was sworn in as the ninth Chief Minister of West Bengal at the Brigade Parade Grounds, in the presence of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and various dignitaries. The event marked a significant political shift in the state, with the BJP securing 207 seats in the 294-seat Assembly, leading to the ousting of the Trinamool Congress government.
