The BJP has backed Union Home Minister Amit Shah’s statements regarding illegal infiltration in West Bengal and accused Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee of disregarding requests for land allocation to the Border Security Force (BSF) along the Bangladesh border. Shah, currently in Kolkata for a three-day visit, emphasized the need to prevent illegal infiltration and remove existing infiltrators if the BJP comes to power in 2026. He criticized Banerjee for not responding to his letters on land allotment for border security.
Shah highlighted the issue of inadequate fencing along the border, questioning the state government’s reluctance to provide land for security infrastructure. The BJP raised concerns about national security being compromised due to vote-bank politics in West Bengal. BJP National Spokesperson Rohan Gupta stressed the seriousness of Shah’s allegations and urged the state government to address the situation promptly.
BJP MP Manan Kumar Mishra echoed Shah’s stance on eliminating infiltration nationwide, emphasizing the government’s commitment to tackling threats like terrorism and Naxal activities. Shah also addressed accusations of a political understanding between the BJP and Trinamool Congress, alleging that the West Bengal government not only failed to combat infiltration but also harbored illegal infiltrators within the state.
