The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) backed the filing of an FIR against Trinamool Congress General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee, criticizing his aggressive language during the West Bengal poll campaign. BJP National Spokesperson Syed Shahnawaz Hussain condemned Banerjee’s speech, calling it inappropriate for a democratic leader. Reacting to the FIR, BJP leader Shazia Ilmi emphasized the importance of civil discourse in democracy, stating that hate speech has no place in politics.
BJP MP Praveen Khandelwal expressed disapproval of Banerjee’s language, labeling it as uncivilized. He emphasized the need for adherence to the law and civility in public discourse. Shehzad Poonawalla, another BJP spokesperson, accused Banerjee of making violent and unconstitutional statements, suggesting that legal action is necessary.
Trinamool Congress MP Saugata Roy dismissed the FIR as a BJP-led political vendetta, highlighting the context of election rhetoric. Leader of Opposition in West Bengal Assembly, Sobhandeb Chattopadhyay, defended Banerjee’s speech as constitutionally protected, denouncing the FIR as a targeted attack on Trinamool leaders.
