The body of Biswajit Sikdar, a Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) worker, was discovered in the Saheb Bagan area under Kalyani police station in Nadia district. Residents found his body hanging in a mango orchard near the railway line, sparking uncertainty over the cause of death. Authorities are investigating whether it was a case of suicide or murder.
Biswajit, known as an active BJP worker in the region, was allegedly found with his hands and feet tied. The police, upon receiving the news, reached the spot and recovered the body, which was then taken to Kalyani Jawaharlal Nehru Memorial Hospital for autopsy. The BJP has raised suspicions of a politically motivated murder disguised as suicide, claiming that Biswajit was lured from his home and killed.
The deceased’s family, who have faced threats in the past due to their political affiliations, expressed doubts about the alleged suicide. While trusting the police to conduct a fair investigation, they have not accused anyone directly of murder. The police have initiated an inquiry into the incident, registering it as a case of unnatural death. Locals are being interviewed as part of the ongoing investigation, although no arrests have been made yet.
