BJP’s Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha, formerly of AAP, visited Rashtrapati Bhavan to address concerns with President Droupadi Murmu about the alleged misuse of state resources by the AAP-led government in Punjab.
Chadha, accompanied by three other Rajya Sabha members, is expected to lodge a complaint accusing the AAP of discriminatory actions against leaders who switched to the BJP. The meeting precedes a discussion between Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the President on the same day.
Chadha alleges that the Punjab government is engaging in a “political vendetta” by using police and administrative resources to target MPs who recently joined the BJP from AAP. He is likely to highlight specific instances of legal action, citing retaliatory motives behind these measures.
Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann will also meet President Droupadi Murmu to address what he calls “illegal” and “unlawful defection” by seven Rajya Sabha MPs, including six from Punjab. He asserts that such actions amount to a betrayal of the people’s mandate.
As of April 2026, seven Rajya Sabha MPs, including Raghav Chadha, have defected from AAP to BJP, significantly reducing AAP’s strength in the Upper House. Chief Minister Mann emphasized that those MPs who have betrayed the people’s mandate deserve no leniency, labeling them as traitors of Punjab and Punjabis.
