Home Minister Amit Shah commended the Indian contingent for their impressive performance at the Asian U20 Athletics Championships, where they secured a total of 19 medals. The contingent concluded their campaign by clinching three gold medals on the final day, finishing second overall with a tally of 10 gold, five silver, and four bronze medals.
The Minister praised the athletes for their outstanding achievement, describing the 19 medals, including 10 golds, as a testament to India’s growing sporting prowess. While this performance was remarkable, it fell short of India’s best-ever showing at the 2024 edition in Dubai, where they secured 29 medals, including seven gold, 11 silver, and 11 bronze.
Union Minister of Health and Family Welfare Jagat Prakash Nadda also lauded the Indian team for their exceptional display in Hong Kong. He congratulated the contingent for their determination and passion, emphasizing that their success has brought immense pride to the nation and signifies a bright future for Indian athletics.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh joined in praising the young athletes for their remarkable performance at the championships. Singh highlighted the talent, hard work, and determination of the athletes, attributing India’s growing success in sports to increased support, improved infrastructure, and a national focus on sporting excellence.
Former Indian cricketer Shikhar Dhawan also extended his congratulations to the Indian athletes, acknowledging the dedication and hard work that led to their success. He celebrated the contingent’s achievement of finishing with 19 medals and securing the second position at the Asian Championships.
