BJP’s Sikkim unit praised the state government’s Rs 18,455-crore Budget for 2026-27, calling it development-focused. They urged a focus on revenue generation, timely project implementation, and job creation. The Budget includes measures benefiting farmers, enhancing road infrastructure, and strengthening healthcare, with an emphasis on reducing borrowing dependency by creating sustainable income sources.

The allocation of Rs 5,896 crore for capital expenditure and Rs 11,733 crore for revenue expenditure was commended by the BJP-Sikkim spokesperson. Investments in infrastructure are seen as key to Sikkim’s long-term progress. Additionally, the earmarking of funds for weather-proof road carpeting and repairs was appreciated, with a call for balanced development starting from remote areas to tourism spots for improved rural connectivity.

The State Interest Subvention Scheme for farmers, reducing interest rates for timely loan repayments, was welcomed. The Centre and state sharing three percent each of the interest burden was seen as a significant relief for farmers. The proposal to establish an Assisted Reproductive Technology Centre and construct 197 houses under the Sikkim Garib Awas Yojana were also positively acknowledged.

While lauding the Budget’s initiatives, the spokesperson highlighted the need for more resources for youth employment and skill development. Emphasis was placed on enhancing fiscal self-reliance by boosting revenue streams and reducing reliance on borrowings and Central aid. The importance of timely project execution for continued Central funding was stressed, with a call for effective Budget implementation for the fiscal year.
