BJP leader Suvendu Adhikari is currently in the lead in the Bhabanipur constituency in south Kolkata during the ongoing West Bengal Assembly elections. After two rounds of counting, Adhikari is ahead by 1,558 votes. He is also leading in the Nandigram Assembly constituency by 7,698 votes in the East Midnapore district.
Adhikari expressed confidence in BJP’s performance, stating that the party is likely to form the government. He mentioned that initial trends show BJP leading in more than 135 seats, while Trinamool Congress is ahead in over 100 seats. Adhikari acknowledged the support of Hindu voters and attributed the lead to anti-incumbency sentiments and Hindu voters favoring BJP.
In the previous elections in 2021, Adhikari had defeated Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee in Nandigram by a narrow margin of 1,956 votes. The ongoing counting of votes for the West Bengal Assembly elections indicates a close competition between the ruling party and the Opposition BJP, with BJP slightly ahead of Trinamool Congress after the first few hours of counting.
As per the latest updates, BJP is leading with 127 seats, followed by Trinamool Congress with 87 seats. Congress candidates are yet to secure a lead in any seat, while the CPI(M)-led Left Front candidates are leading in one seat. Humayun Kabir, the chairman of Aam Janata Unnayan Party (AJUP), is leading in Rejinagar in the Murshidabad district. The counting process will involve a minimum of ten rounds and a maximum of 26 rounds based on the number of voters in each constituency.
