New Chandigarh, April 19 – Punjab Kings showcased a dominant performance in their IPL 2026 match against Lucknow Super Giants, scoring a formidable 254/7. Opener Priyansh Arya’s explosive 93 off 37 balls and Australian batsman Cooper Connolly’s quick 87 off 46 balls were the highlights of Punjab Kings’ innings. The duo’s remarkable 182-run partnership for the second wicket set the stage for Punjab Kings’ imposing total.
Arya and Connolly displayed exceptional power-hitting skills, with Arya smashing four boundaries and nine sixes, while Connolly contributed with eight fours and seven sixes. Despite losing wickets towards the end, their aggressive batting ensured Punjab Kings crossed the 250-run mark. Lucknow Super Giants’ bowler Prince Yadav stood out with figures of 2-25, while the rest of the bowling attack struggled, conceding 226 runs in 16 overs.
In response to Lucknow Super Giants’ decision to bowl first, Punjab Kings’ veteran Mohammed Shami struck early by dismissing Prabhsimran Singh for a duck. Arya, on the other hand, set the tone by hitting a massive six off Mohsin Khan. While Connolly initially struggled, Arya’s boundary-hitting spree propelled him to a quick fifty in just 19 deliveries. Connolly later found his rhythm to reach his fifty off 35 balls.
The partnership between Arya and Connolly intensified as they targeted Aiden Markram, scoring 32 runs in the 13th over, including five sixes. However, Connolly’s dismissal at 87 ended their partnership. Arya, who was eyeing a century, fell short by seven runs after being caught by Mitchell Marsh off Manimaran Siddharth. Despite a brief middle-order collapse, Marcus Stoinis and Shashank Singh’s late onslaught pushed Punjab Kings past the 250-run mark.
Stoinis contributed with 29 off 16 balls, while Shashank’s quick 17 off 6 balls added crucial runs. Shashank’s aggressive batting in the final over, where he scored 20 runs off Shami, propelled Punjab Kings to a challenging total. With a target of 255, Lucknow Super Giants faced a daunting task, needing to score at 12.75 runs per over to secure victory.
