A Booth Level Officer (BLO) in Hooghly district, West Bengal, issued a Special Intensive Revision (SIR) hearing notice to his wife. Rajshekhar Majumdar, the BLO for Tarakeshwar Assembly constituency, served the notice to his wife, Susmita Majumdar. The notice stemmed from a discrepancy in Susmita’s voter list details.
Susmita’s grandfather’s name was on the 2002 voter list, but her father’s name was missing. To rectify this, Susmita linked her name to her grandfather’s. However, a hearing notice was served, citing a 40-year age gap between Susmita and her grandfather. Susmita, aged 37, pointed out that the age difference should be 52 years based on official records.
Rajshekhar expressed that such errors cause unnecessary trouble for citizens. He clarified that despite correct information, his wife received the notice. In a similar incident, another BLO in East Burdwan district faced a similar situation with his wife receiving a notice due to a surname spelling error.
