As the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) elections are currently underway, BMC Commissioner Bhushan Gagrani has cast his vote and assured residents of a smooth and secure polling process in Mumbai. Gagrani mentioned that all necessary facilities have been set up at polling stations across the city to ensure a hassle-free voting experience.
In his statement after voting, Gagrani emphasized the importance of active participation in the democratic process. He urged Mumbaikars to exercise their right to vote, highlighting that voting enables effective resolution of local issues. The ongoing BMC elections involve 1,700 candidates vying for 227 seats in India’s wealthiest civic body with an annual budget exceeding Rs 74,400 crore.
With polling being conducted in 29 municipal corporations in Maharashtra, over 3.48 crore voters are eligible to decide the fate of the candidates. The BMC elections in Mumbai, after a nine-year gap, have attracted significant attention, with heightened political stakes and the BJP–Shiv Sena alliance facing challenges from other political factions.
