The body of a 15-year-old Class 9 student, Mala Singh, who had been missing since May 21, was discovered hanging from a tree in a secluded area near her village in Jharkhand’s East Singhbhum district. The incident has caused tension in the area, with family members and villagers alleging murder and demanding a thorough investigation along with the immediate arrest of those responsible.
Mala Singh, a student at Lailam School in Bodam, left home on May 21 to bathe in the village pond but did not return. Despite extensive search efforts, her body was found hanging from a tree by villagers on Saturday, triggering shock and outrage in the community. The police have taken custody of the body for post-mortem examination.
The family of Mala Singh has rejected the possibility of suicide, pointing out that she had shown no signs of distress or suicidal tendencies. They have raised concerns about the circumstances of her death, including the discovery of scratch marks on her body, indicating a possible struggle before her demise. Villagers have threatened protests if a fair investigation is not conducted to identify those responsible.
