A bomb threat email sent to the Chief Minister’s Office in Gandhinagar on Wednesday led to heightened security measures across Gujarat. Similar threats were also received by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) and the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) office, prompting investigations. The threatening email to the Chief Minister’s Office mentioned a bomb blast at 1.11 p.m.
Similar emails were sent to the AMC headquarters in Ahmedabad and the RSS office, indicating alleged blast times of 3.11 p.m. and 5.11 p.m. respectively. The emails referenced “Khalistan,” “Operation Blue Star,” and “Operation Woodrose,” and were sent from different email IDs, raising serious security concerns. Police, bomb disposal squads, and dog squads were deployed to the affected locations following the threats.
Security measures were immediately tightened at government offices, public institutions, and other sensitive locations in Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar. The AMC’s main office was evacuated as a precautionary measure, with security personnel conducting thorough searches of the premises. Authorities launched investigations, utilizing technical surveillance to trace the source of the threatening emails, including the email accounts and IP addresses involved.
Senior police officers and specialized cybercrime teams initiated an inquiry into the threatening emails, suspecting a coordinated effort by multiple individuals. State Minister Pravin Mali confirmed the inquiry, stating that such incidents seemed to be orchestrated by certain individuals acting together. Despite previous hoax emails, the threats are being treated seriously, with security agencies urging citizens to report any suspicious activities to the police promptly.
