Passport offices in Kolkata faced bomb threats on Thursday following similar scares at courts across West Bengal over the past two days. The Brabourne Road and Anandpur area passport offices received bomb threat emails, prompting evacuations as employees fled in panic. Police and bomb squad members quickly responded, conducting searches with police dogs, but no explosives were found at either location.
Simultaneously, multiple post offices in various districts received bomb threats via email. The Howrah Maidan post office was evacuated after a threat claimed a bomb was present. Similar threats targeted the Asansol Head Post Office in West Midnapore district and Basirhat Head Post Office in North 24 Parganas district. Police and bomb squads swiftly arrived at each location to conduct searches.
In addition to the recent threats, courts across the state, including the Calcutta High Court, received bomb threat emails on Tuesday and Wednesday. Threats were directed at the City Sessions Court in Kolkata, Suri Court in Birbhum, and Asansol Court in West Burdwan district. Panic also ensued at the Hooghly District Court. Despite extensive searches, no explosives were found in any of the court premises.
The bomb scare extended to the Asansol District and Sessions Court on Wednesday, with a threatening email reaching the West Burdwan District Judge. Similar threats were reported at the Suri District Court in Birbhum, claiming the presence of RDX in the court premises. However, police searches yielded no suspicious findings at any of the court locations.
