A Border Security Force (BSF) jawan in Baishnabnagar, Malda, opened fire inside the BSF camp, resulting in the deaths of two fellow jawans. The accused soldier, Shivam Mishra from Chhattisgarh, had a history of similar misconduct a year ago and had recently completed his punishment under BSF regulations. Following the incident, he was promptly arrested.
The victims were identified as Ajay Kumar Singh from Bihar and Ambadar Suresh Dargu from Maharashtra, both belonging to the 71st Battalion of the BSF. Another injured jawan, Vikas Brahm from West Bengal, is currently receiving treatment at Malda Medical College and Hospital. The shooting took place at the headquarters of the 119th and 71st battalions of the BSF in Bidhannagar, Malda.
An investigation into the incident has been initiated by the officers of Baishnabnagar Police Station, with District Superintendent of Police Anupam Singh overseeing the matter. BSF Malda Sector DIG Surendra Kumar Jha confirmed the launch of an inquiry into the tragic event. The accused jawan was reportedly about to be sent home after completing his previous sentence, but the shooting occurred during this process, causing a stir in the Baishnabnagar area.
