Former Australia wicketkeeper Brad Haddin, aged 48, has been appointed as the new head coach of New South Wales (NSW), taking over from Greg Shipperd. Haddin, known for his successful career as a wicketkeeper-batter, will start his role in June, marking his return to the state setup after more than a decade. His experience includes coaching roles with the Australian team under Darren Lehmann and Justin Langer.
Haddin’s new position involves overseeing all aspects of the Blues program, focusing on developing a distinctive playing style, nurturing First-Class and Australian players, and aiming for more titles. Expressing his excitement, Haddin stated that NSW cricket holds a special place in his heart, and he is eager to work with the talented players to elevate the team’s performance and style of play. His association with the Blues dates back to his last appearance in November 2014.
Cricket NSW CEO Lee Germon welcomed Haddin’s return, emphasizing his coaching expertise at various levels and his deep understanding of the NSW cricket ethos. Haddin, who is currently part of the coaching staff at Punjab Kings in the Indian Premier League (IPL), will not be involved in coaching the Big Bash League sides Sydney Sixers or Sydney Thunder. Both franchises are seeking new head coaches following recent changes, with names like James Hopes and Shane Watson being considered for the roles.
