Kolkata, Aug 4 (IANS) Cadets of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) received special training at the headquarters of the XVII Brahmastra Corps in Panagarh, West Bengal.
The 12-day NCC training camp concluded on Tuesday, August 4, 2026, the Eastern Command announced in a post on X.
“Under the aegis of Eastern Command, Brahmastra Corps conducted a 12-day NCC training camp at Panagarh. Cadets received practical training in military life, weapon training, physical fitness and leadership development, strengthening their discipline, team spirit, confidence and commitment to serving the nation,” the post stated.
It added that the initiative nurtured confidence, leadership skills and a spirit of dedication towards the nation, inspiring the youth to become responsible and capable citizens of tomorrow.
The Brahmastra Corps is India’s first Mountain Strike Corps, specially raised for operations along India’s northern boundary. Troops of the Corps are trained in high-altitude warfare and interoperability with the Indian Air Force (IAF) for quick deployment.
The Corps now has five Integrated Battle Groups (IBGs) that are based along the Line of Actual Control (LAC) in Sikkim and Arunachal Pradesh. These IBGs have components of infantry, artillery, air defence and air support units.
“It was a special opportunity for the NCC cadets to interact with the personnel of the Corps and use some of their training facilities. They were also shown some of the specialised equipment and weapons used by the troops. There were special briefings and interactions. By the end of the camp, the cadets had a fair idea of the kind of operations that the troops are trained to participate in,” an official said.
He added that this would help cadets who wish to apply for a career in the defence forces.
“The most important part was the discipline that they got to witness and be a part of. It will stand them in good stead in life,” he said.
Defence Minister Rajnath Singh had recently spoken about increasing the number of NCC cadets by adding new directorates and enhancing facilities at existing ones.
He also emphasised better training for cadets to help them serve the country more effectively in the future.
Receiving training from the elite troops of the Brahmastra Corps was described by cadets as a dream come true, and they expressed gratitude while receiving participation certificates.
