The 72 The League tournament, a breakthrough event for professional golf in India, commences at the Classic Golf & Country Club in Delhi NCR. This tournament reintroduces the matchplay format and adds a team element to Indian professional golf, featuring six city-based teams with 10 PGTI players each.
The tournament’s opening round saw Arjun Atwal, the sole PGA Tour winner from India and League’s brand ambassador, along with six captains, determining the Order of Play. Teams like Charminar Champions, Kolkata Classics, Mumbai Aces, Nava Raipur, Rajasthan Regals, and UP Prometheans will compete in the event.
Unlike traditional events like the Ryder Cup, 72 The League will include two singles, two fourballs, and a foursome match in each round. Teams have been practicing different formats and partnerships to optimize their performance during the matches.
Players like Ajeetesh Sandhu and Viraj Madappa lead strong teams, each strategizing to counter the strengths of their opponents. With experienced players and young talents in the mix, the tournament promises exciting matchups and a fresh take on professional golf in India.
