Brett Randell achieved a remarkable milestone in world first-class cricket by taking five wickets in five balls, securing a career-best figure of 7-25 for Central Stags during a Plunket Shield match against Northern Districts at McLean Park. Randell’s feat included dismissing Henry Cooper, Jeet Raval, Joe Carter, Robert O’Donnell, and Kristian Clarke successively in a historic display of bowling prowess. This exceptional performance marked only the eighth hat-trick in Stags first-class cricket history.

The sequence of wickets left Northern Districts struggling at 9/5, with Randell briefly holding figures of 7/4. His exceptional bowling display not only rattled the opposition but also helped dismiss Northern Districts for a mere 82 runs. Following this dominant performance, Stags captain Tom Bruce enforced the follow-on with a commanding lead of 291 runs. Randell’s incredible achievement of five wickets in five balls will be etched in cricketing history as a unique and memorable feat.

Expressing his feelings during the tea break, Randell shared his disbelief and elation at the extraordinary performance. He emphasized the importance of sticking to the team’s game plan and executing his deliveries with precision. Randell’s humility and focus on maintaining consistency in his bowling were key factors in his historic accomplishment. His exceptional bowling spell not only made a significant impact on the match but also etched his name in the annals of cricket history.
