The Ministry of Women and Child Development hosted the inaugural preparatory session of the BRICS Women’s Working Group virtually, aiming to promote women-led progress and societal change. Scheduled for July 6–9, 2026, the upcoming BRICS meetings in Kochi, Kerala, will build on the outcomes of this initial gathering. Discussions during the preparatory meeting focused on various global women-centric issues like governance, financial inclusion, entrepreneurship, and climate action.
Representatives from BRICS member nations, along with officials from diverse ministries and organizations like UN Women and FICCI, participated in the preparatory meeting. The event highlighted India’s dedication to empowering women for economic growth, governance, and social advancement. Acknowledging India’s leadership, interventions from BRICS countries applauded the shared priorities and emphasized cooperation and mutual learning.
India’s BRICS chairship in 2026 centers on the theme of ‘Building for Resilience, Innovation, Cooperation, and Sustainability,’ echoing Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision outlined during the 17th BRICS Summit in Rio de Janeiro in 2025. The BRICS alliance, established in 2006, has evolved to emphasize a people-centric and humanity-first approach, with the inaugural summit held in Yekaterinburg, Russia, in 2009.
