A migrant worker from Odisha was brutally attacked in Tiruttani, leading to strong political criticism in Tamil Nadu. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has accused the DMK government of failing to maintain law and order in the state. The victim, identified as Suraj, was assaulted by four intoxicated juveniles who recorded the attack for social media.
The BJP State spokesperson, A.N.S. Prasad, condemned the incident, labeling it as a disturbing indication of moral decline and governance breakdown. He emphasized that the assault on the unarmed migrant laborer was unprovoked and amounted to attempted murder. Prasad criticized the State government for its alleged inability to curb drug abuse, street crimes, and the glorification of violence online.
Demanding immediate action, the BJP called for enhanced intelligence operations, stricter monitoring of at-risk youth, and rigorous enforcement of laws against weapon possession, drug use, and violent offenses. Prasad also advocated for moral and legal education in schools, focusing on values like compassion, discipline, and social accountability.
The BJP spokesperson criticized the glamorization of violence in cinema and digital media, urging authorities to hold filmmakers and online platforms accountable for promoting brutality. He highlighted the need for social media companies to promptly remove violent content and ensure consistent enforcement of regulations. Prasad also raised concerns about selective law enforcement, suggesting that whistleblowers are often targeted while perpetrators escape consequences.
Referring to previous incidents in Chief Minister M.K. Stalin’s constituency, Prasad underscored the importance of proactive measures to prevent such tragedies. He called for a comprehensive judicial inquiry into drug networks, policing deficiencies, and administrative lapses, emphasizing the urgency of corrective actions to ensure public safety and accountability.
