Preparations for the 2027 Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections are in full swing as the Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) intensifies efforts to reconnect with the Other Backward Classes (OBCs). BSP president Mayawati, during a recent review meeting, emphasized the need to strengthen the party at the grassroots level to replicate the success of the 2007 elections. The OBC community will continue to be a key focus of the party’s electoral strategy moving forward.
Mayawati conducted a thorough evaluation of the party’s presence among OBC communities, voter outreach initiatives, and election readiness. She stressed the importance of rebuilding the significant support the OBCs provided in the BSP’s 2007 victory through sustained engagement and trust-building efforts. Party workers were instructed to engage directly with backward class communities in rural and urban areas to convey the party’s policies and commitment to social justice.
Highlighting the BSP’s track record in advancing social dignity, political empowerment, and economic progress for Dalits and backward classes during its tenure, Mayawati underscored that the genuine interests of OBCs are protected under BSP governance. She criticized other parties for focusing solely on electoral gains rather than the welfare of OBCs. The party’s consistent efforts in safeguarding the rights of marginalized communities, particularly in areas of reservation and social justice, were also emphasized.
As the OBC electorate regains significance in Uttar Pradesh politics, various political parties, including the BJP, Samajwadi Party, and Congress, are vying for support within this demographic. In contrast, the BSP aims to revive its historical Dalit-OBC alliance. Mayawati’s recent meeting serves as a crucial indicator of the party’s strategic direction leading up to the 2027 elections.
