A bus in western Seoul veered off the road, hitting pedestrians and a building, resulting in two serious injuries and 11 other injuries. The incident occurred near Seodaemun Station at 1:15 p.m. The seriously injured individuals, a pedestrian in her 50s with a broken leg and a 30-something pedestrian with head injuries, were taken to the hospital along with six others.
Authorities are investigating the accident that involved an intracity bus. The bus driver, who is in his 50s and also injured, will be tested for drugs. A witness described the bus as hitting a car, a motorcycle, and people after moving straight forward. The witness likened the scene to a “battlefield” due to the loud noise.
The exact cause of the accident is under investigation by authorities. Efforts are underway to move the bus, with 271 personnel and 18 vehicles deployed to secure the area. In a separate incident on January 10, multiple accidents on a highway in North Gyeongsang resulted in five fatalities, suspected to be caused by black ice.
