Indian athletes excelled on the penultimate day of the 22nd Asian U20 Athletics Championships in Hong Kong by securing three additional gold medals. Nikhil Chandrashekar triumphed in the men’s 3000m steeplechase with a personal best time of 9:25.44 seconds. Shahnavaz Khan dominated the men’s long jump with a best jump of 7.84m, while Basant clinched gold in the men’s high jump by clearing 2.20m.
Aarti contributed to India’s success by winning bronze in the women’s 200m with a personal best time of 24.12 seconds. Meanwhile, Poonam finished eighth in the women’s javelin throw with a distance of 46.55m. With these achievements, India’s gold medal count rose to seven, placing them second on the medal tally behind China, who leads with ten gold medals.
Earlier in the championships, Pooja set a new national and meet record in the high jump event by clearing 1.93m. Her performance surpassed the previous national record of 1.92m set in 2012 and also exceeded the Asian U20 meet record of 1.90m set in 2006.
