A businessman from North 24 Parganas in West Bengal was reportedly kidnapped and robbed by unidentified individuals posing as Criminal Investigation Department (CID) officers in central Kolkata. The incident occurred near Red Road in central Kolkata, with the victim filing a complaint with the police. The businessman, hailing from Baduria, was stripped of his gold chain valued at Rs 3 lakh and Rs 70,000 in cash.
A senior officer from the Kolkata Police revealed that the kidnappers demanded a ransom of one crore rupees from the businessman. When the demand was refused, they confiscated Rs 70,000 in cash and a gold chain before fleeing the scene. The terrified victim lodged a complaint at the Phoolbagan police station in north Kolkata, prompting an investigation into the matter to identify the culprits.
According to the complaint, the businessman, involved in import-export activities, was at a shopping mall in Phoolbagan with two associates when the incident unfolded. Claiming to be CID officers, a group of men approached them and took the businessman away in a black SUV under the guise of a search operation. The victim’s associates were assaulted when they tried to intervene, while the victim was threatened at gunpoint and asked for a ransom of Rs 1 crore during the car ride.
As the businessman could not meet the ransom demand, he was subjected to severe beatings inside the moving vehicle. Upon learning that the police had been alerted by the victim’s companions, the robbers abandoned the victim near Madhyamgram in North 24 Parganas and fled the scene. The police are actively pursuing the culprits, reviewing CCTV footage from the shopping mall in Phoolbagan and the surrounding areas, in an effort to apprehend the suspects.
