A single-judge vacation bench of the Calcutta High Court has instructed Trinamool Congress general secretary and Lok Sabha member Abhishek Banerjee to appear before the CID by 6 p.m. for questioning. The directive came during a crucial hearing on Banerjee’s petition challenging the CID summons and seeking protection from potential police actions.
Banerjee has been asked to present himself at the CID headquarters in South Kolkata for interrogation. The court noted that Banerjee had previously evaded similar summons and emphasized that non-compliance would not be tolerated. Despite being represented by an advocate in court, Banerjee was directed to cooperate fully with the CID’s investigation.
The bench granted Banerjee a conditional interim protection from coercive police measures for the next 21 days. It also authorized the CID to conduct search operations if deemed necessary. Abhishek Banerjee, who is currently in New Delhi, faces the decision of returning to Kolkata within the specified timeframe to comply with the court’s orders.
