The Calcutta High Court dismissed former West Bengal Fire Services Minister Sujit Bose’s request to drop the Enforcement Case Information Report (ECIR) filed by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) against him. Instead, the court suggested that Bose file a bail plea. Bose’s plea for a speedy trial was also turned down by the judge.
Bose, who is currently in judicial custody following his arrest by the ED on May 11, is accused of involvement in a corruption case related to municipal job recruitments. His counsel sought an urgent hearing, but the court was not convinced of the necessity for expediting the process.
The court scheduled the next hearing for July. Bose, a former Trinamool Congress legislator, lost in the recent Assembly elections. He is alleged to have unlawfully recommended individuals for jobs in the South Dum Dum Municipality, with around 150 names reportedly involved. The ED is investigating the flow of corrupt funds into multiple bank accounts.
Prior to his arrest, ED officials conducted raids at Bose’s residence and office, as well as at a dhaba he operated.
