Some 68.4% of Cambodian evacuees from a recent border conflict with Thailand have gone back home, according to Cambodia’s Interior Ministry Spokesperson Touch Sokhak. Out of 649,023 evacuees, about 444,179 have returned, while 204,844 people, including 108,466 women and 66,892 children, remain in displacement camps.

Cambodia and Thailand reached a ceasefire on December 27, 2025, following three weeks of armed conflict that resulted in casualties on both sides. Cambodia has proposed a special meeting on border demarcation in January in Siem Reap province, aiming to discuss survey and demarcation works and address Thai military activities violating Cambodia’s territorial integrity.

Thailand and Cambodia agreed to end weeks of border clashes on December 27, 2025, after intense fighting that involved fighter jets, rocket fire, and artillery barrages. The agreement, signed by Thai Defence Minister Natthaphon Nakrphanit and Cambodian counterpart Tea Seiha, concluded 20 days of conflict that led to casualties and displacements on both sides.
