Authorities in Kannur district have implemented comprehensive camera surveillance in all polling booths to ensure a transparent electoral process for the upcoming Kerala Assembly elections. With 2,177 polling stations, the monitoring system includes webcasting inside and outside the booths to closely monitor voter activities and proceedings on election day. The installation of cameras is progressing rapidly and is expected to be completed before the elections.
The surveillance system aims to enhance transparency, prevent malpractices, and ensure compliance with election guidelines throughout the voting process. A two-tier control system for real-time supervision has been established, with a central control room at the Kannur Collectorate monitoring live feeds from all polling stations. Additionally, separate control rooms will be set up in each Assembly constituency under the supervision of Returning Officers.
Election observers appointed by the Election Commission will visit these control rooms periodically to evaluate the surveillance system’s functioning and ensure strict adherence to protocols. Specialized training programs have been conducted for personnel handling the webcasting system to support its smooth operation during the elections. Trained staff will be deployed at each polling station to manage equipment and address any technical issues that may arise.
To maintain integrity, the entire voting process in Kannur district will be recorded and securely stored, with footage saved on hard disks for verification by the State Chief Electoral Officer. Authorities are confident that these surveillance measures will strengthen the electoral process’s integrity, providing assurance of a smooth and transparent election in the district.
