Captain Reece James has signed a new six-year contract with Chelsea Football Club, extending his stay until 2032. Previously set to expire in 2028, Chelsea secured their skipper’s future ahead of time. A product of Chelsea’s academy, James, who joined the club at six, has become a key player, making 225 appearances since his senior debut in 2019.
Having won five major trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2021, James, at 24, looks forward to his best years ahead at Stamford Bridge. Expressing his commitment, James stated, “Chelsea means so much to me,” emphasizing his desire to achieve more success with the team. Chelsea’s sporting directors praised James’ extension, highlighting his leadership both on and off the pitch.
This season has seen James enjoy consistent playing time, with 35 appearances across all competitions. Despite past injuries, Chelsea has managed his workload effectively. Former England defender Kyle Walker has endorsed James as a potential first-choice right-back for the national team, citing his versatility and skill.
