Captain Shreyas Iyer expressed disappointment with India’s performance, labeling it as ‘atrocious and awful,’ following a significant 125-run defeat against England in the third T20I. This defeat marks India’s largest T20I loss in terms of runs. England’s dominant display secured a 2-0 lead in the five-match series after the first game was washed out.
“I think it was atrocious. I couldn’t use a better word, honestly,” Iyer remarked during the post-match press conference. He emphasized the need to analyze the shortcomings and rectify them. India struggled with their batting, losing four wickets in the power play, which hindered their momentum.
England, batting first, posted a formidable total of 201/7 in 20 overs, with Phil Salt’s aggressive 70 off 44 balls setting the tone. In response, India faltered against England’s pace attack, managing only 76 runs in 11.4 overs while chasing 202. Iyer highlighted the importance of adapting quickly to match situations and executing plans effectively.
As the series progresses, England aims to maintain their lead against the T20 World Cup champions. Iyer urged his teammates to take individual responsibility for turning around their performance and winning matches. Despite the disappointing results, he emphasized the learning opportunities for the team.
