Five individuals were injured in a car accident on the Pal–Umra Bridge in Surat late Thursday night. The incident involved a Honda WR-V driven by Dr. Viralkant Chaudhary, a local doctor associated with Life Line Hospital. Dr. Chaudhary mentioned that he lost control of his vehicle after a long surgery, hitting three motorcycles and a tempo.
The injured individuals, namely Himmatbhai Boricha, Bhavikben Chudasama, Parulben Rathod, Manishaben Rathod, and Prakash Singh, were promptly taken to Civil and Shayona hospitals for treatment. Fortunately, all of them are currently in stable condition. An official reported that the accident occurred late at night, with the doctor attributing it to fatigue after performing a surgery.
No FIR has been filed yet, as authorities are awaiting the recovery of the injured individuals. Dr. Chaudhary is currently in custody, pending medical tests to determine any alcohol consumption and technical inspections of the vehicle. Additionally, CCTV footage from the bridge is under review to gather more information about the incident. An eyewitness mentioned that the doctor appeared to be driving fast and possibly under the influence of alcohol.
Preliminary investigations suggest that fatigue from the late-night surgery might have played a role in the accident. Authorities plan to explore all possible factors once the results of the FSL and medical examinations are available. The collision led to temporary traffic congestion, which was swiftly resolved.
In a separate incident on the same day, a man lost his life following a head-on collision between two motorcycles in the Mota Varachha area. The severity of the impact was captured on CCTV footage. The injured riders were immediately hospitalized, and the police have initiated an investigation into the circumstances surrounding the accident.
